I am often asked if there is a way to tell if a Ukrainian or Russian “Mail Order Bride” is a scammer or not. Many men look at the pictures and begin corresponding with these ladies and somewhere along the way the thought comes into their head that this woman has to be “too good to be true” and they automatically label them a scammer.

Although there may not be one tried and true test to find out if a woman is a scammer before you go to meet them but there are many things that you can do to be pretty sure that things are on the up and up…

Please keep in mind that on the other end of that internet connection is a real live human being. As a matter of fact, they are a very sensitive human being and I can’t stress this enough. Oftentimes, a man will think that a woman is a scammer when she stops corresponding with him. Upon closer investigation it is usually that the man has said something to offend the lady or lead her to believe that he is not serious about his intentions of actually going to meet her. Or he has said something that leads her to believe that she is really not that important to him. By simply saying that he is busy with work and can’t travel right now she may get the idea that she is not as important as his work. This may be so but an explanation stating that your boss won’t let you take vacation until a certain date takes the liability out of your hands.

If you are corresponding with a lady through a dating agency you are definitely putting the odds of success in your favor and eliminating most of the Mail Order Bride scammers in Ukraine or Russia. There will always be a few women who will slip through the cracks but overall, the women that you will find through international dating agencies are on the up and up. The small local agencies usually do some sort of preliminary check and interview the ladies and help them with their profiles. They often help them set up appointments for photos to be taken and so forth. It is in their best interest for these women to be honest and have pure intentions.

The larger websites are usually just a clearing house of profiles taken from the smaller local agencies. So if you hear something bad about a certain big website try to realize that due to the large number of women’s profiles that they have on their site there will be a couple of bad apples. The percentage will be the same as if you had contacted a lady through a small local agency but just due to the shear numbers involved you will hear more bad things about the larger websites. People tend to shout louder when they have a bad experience and folks like to hear dirt typically.

Usually if you are not getting any emails or phone calls requesting money then you are not dealing with a scammer. Russian and Ukrainian people in general tend to be rather stoic and it is rare that they would ask you for help. There is always the exception to the rule and in very trying times if you have a close relationship with a lady there is always the chance that she might ask you for help financially. This is very rare though! So as a general rule I would say that if she hasn’t asked for money that she isn’t a scammer.

There is no doubt that there will always be a certain number of women out there that look to prey upon men and extract as much money as they can from them. This phenomenon can be found in just about every country on every continent. You don’t have to go to Ukraine or Russia to find a gold digger! They are right in your own town or city! So to say that all Russian or Ukrainian girls are gold diggers just looking for a meal ticket is simply wrong.

The ultimate test to find out if your Russian or Ukrainian girlfriend is a scammer or not will come when you finally do travel to meet her. Once you have spent some time together you will know for sure whether or not she is into you or just looking for someone to take care of her. If she is affectionate and happy to see you finally you can be pretty sure that she is not a scammer. If you look into her eyes and you can see some love or admiration there you will know that her intentions are pure. If she seems bored or preoccupied then you can wonder if she is into you for a reason other than love….but don’t mistake a woman’s shyness for aversion. It could also be that you aren’t exactly what she had imagined (much older, fatter, shorter, balder?). This is why it is important to be truthful about yourself when you begin corresponding with a lady. An old picture of you from ten years ago may leave her disappointed when she does meet you.

Overall, you will find that women from Ukraine and Russia are sincere in their desire to find true love, build a happy family and a loving relationship. Don’t let doubts of her intentions cloud your mind and cause you to ruin what might be the best thing that ever happened to you.
